The Minimum Wage Increase and You!

Sep 17, 2014
Minimum wage has become a hot topic issue recently, as it should! Years ago folks who worked for minimum wage were manly High School and College students looking to earn a little fun money. Not true today! We see more and people trying to support themselves and/or a family on minimum wage. The minimum wage is going up July 2014 to $9 per hour and $10 an hour in January 2016. Thank you Unions and a Democratic Governor, Governor Brown. You may wonder how the two have anything to do with minimum wage? Unions continually fight for wage increases for both Union and non-union workers. Unions in California were looking to put a minimum wage increase on the ballot this November instead the Governor signed it into law before that expense had to be taken at the polls. What’s important about a Governor who is a Democrat? A Republican Governor, think Governor Schwartznegger, did not and would not have signed a minimum wage increase. The union difference is also this. With each of the two minimum wage increase coming up our Courtesy Clerks will receive up to .30 cents more than minimum wage. So while non-union workers will go to $9.00 and hour our folks will go to $9.30 an hour. Additionally this union and all other unions in California will continue to fight to raise the minimum wage even higher, because we know that even $10.30 is no where near what a person can live on. Union Yes!
